Trousers: Serbian Orthodox Church


The story repeated itself in a more concise form: someone told me that a certain Serbian Orthodox church in Canberra had excellent frescos. I traveled there, I was wearing trousers again – it was very cold so above the trousers was a coat. Remembering my first experience I came to the church well after the service so I would not upset anyone. The middle-aged mustached man barred my way and said “You cannot come in” pointing at my trousers. This time I lost my patience and asked him to bring the Bible and show me where it is said that a woman in female trousers cannot enter the house of God. His English was poor and he could not understand me so I left.
